Methodology
Homeostat exists to separate what is genuinely supported by rigorous research from what is merely marketed. Here is how we grade evidence, rank study designs, and classify legal and sourcing information.
Evidence grades
Each compound receives a single overall grade reflecting the strength of the best available human evidence for its primary claims.
High
Supported by meta-analyses or multiple double-blind RCTs.
Moderate
Some human RCTs, but limited size, replication, or scope.
Low
Mostly small, open-label, or observational human data.
Preliminary
Primarily animal, in vitro, or anecdotal evidence.
Study-design hierarchy
Not all studies carry equal weight. We rank each cited study by design, from strongest to weakest. This ranking drives the dot-strength indicator on every citation.

Legal status classifications
Legal status is reported per region and reflects general regulatory frameworks, not individual legal advice. Laws change frequently — always verify locally.
Over the counter
Generally legal to buy and possess without a prescription.
Prescription
Legal with a valid prescription from a licensed provider.
Restricted
Controlled, limited, or sold only for research use.
Banned
Prohibited for sale or possession in this region.
Research only
Not approved for human use; legal only as a research chemical.
Sourcing terminology
- Legal — obtainable through sanctioned channels (e.g. licensed pharmacy, retail supplement).
- Gray area— commonly available (often as “research use only”) but of uncertain or restricted legality for human use.
- Illegal — prohibited to sell or possess for human use in most covered regions.
